Australia study visa process
The Australia study visa process has been modified in 2016. Many of the previous student visa types now fall under the Subclass 500 visa. This results in a smoother experience.
Students that apply for a study visa process are divided into two groups: the “Streamlined” and the “Regular” category.
Applicants from most English speaking countries, as well as several European countries, are categorized in the Streamlined category. They do not have proof proficiency in the English language or financial means.
Applicants that fall under the Regular category will have to pass an IELTS English exam and show proof that they can sustain themselves financially during their entire stay in Australia.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIPB) has also mandated the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirements. The DIPB evaluates the personal circumstances of the applicant, including the stability of the applicant’s home country and immigration history. The DIPB also issues a background and health check.

United States study visa process
The United States study visa process is different from other countries in the sense that there is no central system for university applications. This means the applicant has to apply through the institute, instead of a central university unit and meet its requirements. You can expect an application fee and a TOEFL English competency test before the application is processed.
Once accepted, the college or university will send the I-20 applicant form. This form is required for the F-1 VISA. The applicant will also receive instructions on how to create a SEVIS-account. The rest of the process is continued through this platform which comes with an application fee of approximately 200 U.S. Dollar.
The next step is to submit the DS-160 form for non-immigrant visas. Make sure to keep a printout of this form with the barcode and application ID number. If accepted, you are scheduled for an interview at the local U.S. consulate or embassy. There is another fee that has to be paid upfront and of which you have to show proof of payment at the time of the interview.
It is important to take the original, signed SEVIS I-20 form, the confirmation print out of the DS-160, a copy of the visa interview appointment letter, transcripts and proof that you meet the educational requirements for the study you signed up, a passport that will not expire for at least six months after entry to the U.S. and 1 or 2 passport photos.
